Volunteered for service as a Rifleman (A/289) in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, 8th Battalion, attested 8th August 1914. Promoted through 1914-1917 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was wounded at Abbeville on the 16th September 1916 with at least a gun shot wound to the thigh and after some time in the Norfolk War Hospital, joined the Depot. After 5 months he returned to the field.

At a meeting - 15th September 1917 - The lodge secretary read out a letter from Captain Barber of the 8th Kings Royal Rifles stating that Bro Morgan had been killed in action at Flanders on the 22nd August 1917.The letter was read out to the members testifying to the bravery, pluck and endurance of Bro Morgan.
