Family :
Charles was born 1879 in Cardiff the son of Charles Albert, a merchant, and Sophia Ann Heywood of Newport Road. He was baptised on 27th December 1879 in Roath. He was living at Holme Tower, Penarth with his father, Charles A Heywood and siblings Freda and Horace at the time of the 1901 censurs. In 1906, Charles married Jessie Winifred Gainsford. By 1907 he had qualified as a solicitor and was living with his wife Jessie at Hillwood, Brecon Road, Abergavenny.Education & Career :
Marlborough College (C1) from May 1893. Captained the XV in 1897.
Attended Oxford University, Keble College, entered 1900 - 1901. 3rd History and B.A., 1901. Captained the College XV.
Qualified as a solicitor, 1904. Practised at Abergavenny (Gardners & Heywood) until commencing service in the Forces in November 1915.

9 April - 29 April 1918. As the first phase of the great German campaign of 1918 lost momentum and failed in its objective to split the British and French armies, subsidiary attacks were shift the balance of the attack and to seek opportunities to exploit other sectors. On the Lys the Germans initially enjoyed spectacular success against a Portuguese Division but the gap was soon plugged and the advance halted.
Detail :
Royal Field Artillery, 1915; Lieutenant of "B" Battery, 88th Brigade, 1917. Served in France and Belgium, 1917 - 1918. Killed in action at Kemmel Hill, April 25 1918.
