Birmingham Daily Post. 8th. November 1918. - Mr. J. SPENCER BARNETT, WORCESTER - The death has occurred at Coventry, from Pneumonia following influenza, of Mr. John Spencer Barnett, a director of the firm of John Barnett (Limited), corn dealers and coal merchants, Worcester, He applied for a commission in the Royal Air Force, but for medical reasons this was not granted, and since March, 1917, he had been taking part in motor transport work, mainly in Coventry. He was 35 years of age, and a deacon of the Baptist Church, Worcester.
Probate record shows: BARNETT, John Spencer of 5 Rainbow Hill Terrace, Worcester. 1st Class Air Mechanic, Royal Air Force. Died 16th November 1918 at 116 Gulson Road, Coventry. Probate administered at Worcester 4th April to Frederick Langford Barnett - Corn Merchant. Effects £2771 3s 10d.
Commemorated at Worcester Masonic Hall with the information: Nov 1918. Also at St Matthew's Church, Worcester, Worcester Baptist Church, Sansome Walk WW1 Memorial & Worcester Astwood Cemetery.

John was probably just about to take his 3rd Degree ceremony when he succumbed to pneumonia. He had been a Freemason for less than one year.
