The Commonwealth War Graves Commission show that his grave was concentrated from Brindisi to Bari, Italy (Order : WGRI/2801)
JOHNSTON, Ch.E.R.A., 2nd Cl. John, 271071. R.N. H.M.S. "Glasgow." Long Service and Good Conduct medal. Accidentally killed 19th Dec., 1918. Age 49. Eldest son of John and Margaret Johnston, of Dumbarton; husband of Hannah Johnston, of Clarks Beek, Much Urswick, Ulverston. (Reference 99.23 is crossed out and 16.G.3 is annotated alongside).
