Action : The Final Advance in Artois 

The Final Advance in Artois occured 2nd October - 11th November 1918. Concurrently with the advances in the Somme and Arras sectors the First and Fifth British Armies continued the advance and chase the Germans back towards the Belgian border.

Detail :

London Gazette 15/2/1919 - Award of the Military Cross. Thomas Luke Jones was awarded the MC for gallantry on the night of Oct 6/7 1918. Shortly after he was died from wounds sustained.

The news of his death was reported in the Uxbridge & W. Drayton Gazette and the Reading Mercury on the 25th and 26th respectively October 1918, the latter giving more detail:

"DEATH OF LIEUT. T.L. JONES.- A memorial service was held at Burnham Church on Sunday afternoon to Second-Lieut. Thomas Luke Jones, of the Royal Garrison Artillery, who died from wounds received in France at the age of 37 years. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jones, of Britwell Road, Burnham, and was for some time in the office of the late Mr. R. H. Barrett, at Slough. Before joining up Lieut. Jones was clerk to the Burnham Parish Council, clear to the Parochial Sanitary Committee, assistant overseer for Burnham and Dorney, water rate collector, and collector of taxes. He was also captain of the Burnham Fire Brigade. He was a keen sportsman, and for several years represented Burnham at both cricked and football. He had been in France for six months, and his wife was expecting him home on leave when she received the sad news of his death."
