We have excluded Naval Accidents which are seperately identified because of their numbers and impact. Many accidents involved the aviators, operating at the the limits of technology.
Detail :
F20778 - FLIGHT LIEUTENANT ERNEST E. BEALE ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE. Crashed and killed in fog, South or Rauceby Gun Position, near Cranwell.
Served on land based HMS President II.
Grantham Journal 22nd December 1917 "AN INQUEST was held by a South Lincolnshire Coroner, on Friday, touching the death of Flight-Lieut. Ernest Edward Beale (22), who met his death the previous day. the aeroplane was heard by a labourer named Henry Thacker but he could not see it, owing to the fog, until just before it crashed to the ground. The pilot was then dead. The jury returned a verdict of death by accident while flying."
