Detail :
The London Gazette of 20 February, 1912 shows: 6th (Cyclist) Battalion, The Norfolk Regiment; Lance-Corporal John Guilford Miles to be Second Lieutenant. Dated 21st February, 1912., indicating a pre-war and pre-commissioned service with the Norfolks, but his commission as a 2Lt is with the 6th.
Embarked and landed in France 24th December 1917.
Captain Miles was on active service when he was killed in action, 27th June 1918.
Probate MILES John Guilford of Great Yarmouth captain Norfolk regiment died 27 June 1918 in France Probate Norwich 14 August to Evelyn Miles widow. Effects £1843 9s. 10d.
For his service he was posthumously awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal, applied for by his widow. She also applied for the Territorial War Medal which was also granted. The Medal Card shows him as 7th Battalion Norfolks, however, all other record shows the 6th.
