Early Life :
It appears there is nothing straightforward about H.J.B. Montgomery. It seems he leads a chequered life. Henry was of Irish decent, being born 1855. He had two children by Lilian: Gladys Helen May (b.1891). Arundel Andrew Castle (b.27.8.1893) by Lilian. His wife, Lilian Minna, petitioning for divorce in 1898 their marriage cited "Adultery with cruelty towards the Petitioner." Decree Nisi and Absolute were filed in 1899. He possibly had another child, Muriel Hectorina Lilian (b.1891), perhaps the possible grounds for adulterous behaviour. In this same year it is possible that he was jailed for 5 years for stealing close to £1000 whilst employed as Secretary to a company. See Morning Post 11 January, 1899. In 1910, at the marriage of his then 19 year old daughter, Gladys, he is shown to be a Journalist. It is stated that consent is given to marry Richard Pinks, a 31 year old artist.Service Life:
