Sunk by U-93 commanded by Edgar von Spiegel von und zu Peckelsheim 195 miles SWxW of Fastnet 48° 43'N, 12° 35'W en route from Port Briera to Cardiff with a cargo of iron ore.
Commonwealth War Graves shows: "NASH, Ch. Engr. Alfred. S.S. "Horsa" (West Hartelepool). Drowned, as a result of an attack by an enemy submarine, 30th April, 1917. Age 54.. Son of the late George Henry and Mary Nash; husband of Mary Ann Nash (formerly Crallan), nee Tylor), of 7, Carlton St., West Hartlepool. Born at West Hartlepool."
His body was not recovered and is therefore commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial.
