On the 1940 Scroll he is listed as Herbert G. Nixon amongst two of his fallen brothers, which has led to this legend being associated with Herbert Garonne Nixon, who died as a Private in the Australian Army on the date recorded in the UGLE register. There is, unfortunately, no entry for a Herbert G. in the register of the lodge, so it is a tentative link and it may have been as a result of incorrect data in the register.
Herbert James, the name actually listed joined Tongshan Lodge No. 3001, 17th August, 1904 and in their records it shows that Herbert James Nixon was a Conductor (military) resident at Tientsin. He came from Lodge 1951. The contribution record shows that he "Died of Wounds 27/5/18," after 1 year w.s. in 1917.
Lodge No. 1951 is Union Lodge at Tientsin, which makes his membership feasible, but presently unable to find a record of him in the UGLE register.
