Action : France & Flanders |
France & Flanders covers all the dates and corresponding locations which are outside the official battle nomenclature dates on the Western Front. Therefore the actions in which these men died could be considered 'normal' trench duty - the daily attrition losses which were an everyday fact of duty on the Western Front.

In the ledgers of the Lodge at the United Grand Lodge of England he is Henry William Pope and listed as a Staff Sergeant Major based at Aldershot. Unfortunately, the contribution record shows he resigned the lodge 31st December 1914, so tracing this distinguished soldier has proved problematic. The portrait image shows him referenced on GENI, with a rank of Staff Sergeant Major. In the 1921 book, his rank is Regimental Sergeant Major and since his resignation, he had been promoted through the officer ranks to Captain.
