Early Life :
Born in 1866 at Willenhall, Staffordshire. By 1881, Andrew had become a Key Maker which was the trade his elder two brothers Richard and John had taken up. He was listed amongst his family at 10 Birmingham Street, Willenhall, Wolverhampton. There are lot of residents in the same street who are in the "locksmith" industry, a story best portrayed by the Willenhall History Society.Gained his Second Mate's certificate 3rd December 1892 and then his First Mate's Certificate on the 3rd September 1894 and his Master's certificate 20th May 1898, all issued at the port of North Shields.
