Detail :
The name ROBERTSON appears in the 1921 book, The Masonic Roll of Honour, as a single line under Canterbury Lodge No. 1635. There are no initials, rank or service details listed in parts 1 or 2. It is therefore difficult to determine which, if any of these, is the intended man.
The 1910-1921 contribution record of the Canterbury Lodge at the United Grand Lodge of England shows that there are seven entries with the name Robertson:
- Francis Josselyn Lennox Robertson I.1911. Contributed to 1921. Also L3032
- Arthur Geo. Lennox Robertson I.1911. Contributed to 1921. Died 11/1921. Clerk in Holy Orders. Also L3808/2266
- George Herbert Lennox Robertson. B.1888 I.1914. Contributed to 1921. Also L3562.
- Frederick William Lennox Robertson. B.1895. I.1917. Contributed to 1921. Was a Lieutenant. Also L3508
- Kenneth Robertson. B.1885 I.1918. I.1918 Contributed to 1921. Was a Captain.
- Charles Gillette Robertson. B.1886 I.1918. Contributed to 1921. Was a Lieutenant.
- Franklin Ernest Robertson.B.1880. I.1918. Contributed to 1921. Was a 2nd Lieutenant.
Further investigation, perhaps looking at the 1922+ ledgers, understanding the return sent by the Secretary at the time, or if Canterbury Lodge can find record within their minutes.
None of the Robertsons above appear to be the man. Further research shows that instead of ROBERTSON, ROBINSON appears on the roll of the Lodge in the 1933 working of the Roll of Honour. As this entry cannot be changed, by virtue of it being an entry in the original working, a new entry has been created for William Herbert Robinson.
