Detail :
Western Times 08 September 1915 "The funeral of Lieut. R. Sydney Rowse, of the 5th D.C.L.I., whose death occurred under such painfully tragic circumstances at Tavistock, took place at Redruth on Monday. The deceased, who had built up a successful practice as a solicitor, and who had taken a keen interest in many of the local institutions, was very generally esteemed, as was evidenced by the large attendance at the funeral. He was a keen Freemason. The coffin, which was enveloped in the Union Jack and surmounted by beautiful floral tributes, was immediately followed by two non-commissioned officers of the Cornwalls, and Lieut.-Colonel Bawden, 1-5th D.C.L.I.; Lieut. Clayton, 2-5th D.C.L.I.; and Lieut. Rowe 9th D.C.L.I."
Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 06 September 1915 "LIEUT. R.S. ROWSE - FUNERAL AT REDRUTH TO-DAY. - The remains of Sub-Lieutenant R.S. Rowse, of Redruth, who died suddenly on Thursday afternoon at the Whitdown Camp, near Tavistock, were taken from there on Saturday afternoon to his home for the funeral to-day. The coffin, covered with the Union Jack, with deceased's cap and sword on it, was placed on a field ambulance carriage, drawn by two horses, in charge of a transport officer and a section of men. The band of the R.A.M. Corps headed the cortege, of with the Company to which deceased belonged, with the officers, formed part and proceeded to the Great Western Railway Station at Tavistock, where the body was entrained for Redruth. While this was being carried out the band played suitable music in the presence of a large number of the townspeople, many of whom were visably [sic] affected."
