Early Life :
Born Sunderland, Durham c.Q2 1875 to Simon and Mary Ann Sanderson.Married Emily Daley 13th November, 1905 at the Parish Church, Hendon.
In 1911, he is the head of the family, resident at 6 Egerton Street, Sunderland with his wife and three children: Charles Ernest (b.1906); Herbert Maxwell (b.1907) and Cecil Claxton (b.1909). An aunt, Emily Isabella Wilson, is also resident with them at the time of census. He is part of the Civil Service, working as a Post Office Clerk.
The family move to 25 Peel Street,
During the war years in 1915 they have a 4th son, Wilfred.

Natural causes is attributed those deaths due to causes that were not directly associated with the war. Included in this are wartime deaths resulting from, for example, theSpanish Influenza pandemic and its associated pneumonia problems and other attributions such as age and exhaustion. It also groups those who through Post Traumatic Stress committed suicide as a result of their experiences.

By 1915, Earnest is described as Postal Overseer (Postmaster General) and he enlists, aged 40, on the 11th December at Sunderland and is signed up for the duration of the war into the Cavalry Depot (Reserve) a Private. Service No. 31449. He had previous military experience with the Royal Engineers, having servied 2 years 4 months with the 3rd Telegraph Battery. His preference would have seen him rejoin the Royal Engineers and the Signalling Corps.
His service record shows that he was with the 6th Reserve Cavalry Regiment at the time of his discharge on the 3rd August, 1916, at Tidworth. He was no longer physically fit for war service and after 239 days service was discharged under King's Regulations Para 392(XVI). As to his character: "his conduct has been good." There is nothing in his record that creates a link between 1916 and the 1918, where he dies at the Sunderland Asylum.
