Born 30th September, 1883, son of the late Anne Maria Savage and James Savage, of the Hotel Pelletier, Harcourt St., Dublin. His birth certificate shows he was been born at his parents house at Annes Place, 240 Old Lodge Road, Belfast.Service Life:

Enlisted in 1907, joining the King's Regiment at Liverpool. He appears on various Army Lists, with a 10th January 1911 commission date. Mobilized from Special Reserve. Medal card shows entered theatre 12/8/1914 with 1st Bn Liverpool Regiment.

He embarked to France 17th May 1915 and landing a day later. He joined the 3rd Dragoon Guards 21st May 1915 and at the end of June was in Hospital, the injury of which was severe enough to be evacuated to England. He recovered and was promoted to be Lieutenant on 21st October 1915. He received orders to join the Expeditionary Force on 20th April 1918, embarking out to France, rejoining his unit by 20th June 1918. A month later on the 23rd July 1918, he was back in Hospital and returned to England, invalided home. He was taken to Tidworth Military Hospital, and died 8th March 1919. He is buried at Tidworth Military Cemetery.
His name appears on Ireland Wills, beneficiary James Savage.

Alphonsus was based at the 3 Cavalry Regiment in Canterbury when he was initiated in 1915. His war service is recorded and the record shows that he "Died on active service."
