4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion August 1914 : in Seaforth, Liverpool. 6 March 1915 : landed at Le Havre and attached to Sirhind Brigade, Lahore Division of Indian Corps. 10 November 1915 : transferred to 137th Brigade, 46th (North Midland) Division. 3 December 1915 : attached to 56th and 58th Brigades, 19th (Western) Division. 27 February 1916 : transferred to 98th Brigade, 33rd Division.

Action : France & Flanders 

France & Flanders covers all the dates and corresponding locations which are outside the official battle nomenclature dates on the Western Front. Therefore the actions in which these men died could be considered 'normal' trench duty - the daily attrition losses which were an everyday fact of duty on the Western Front.

The Liverpool Echo shows family notification on 14th February, 1917 "SHANNON-February 10, of neuritis, at Rouen Hospital, France, Archibald McDonald, dearly-beloved brother of George and Babs Bird. (Sadly missed. - Bedford-road, Rock Ferry."

And, on the 15th February "SHANNON-February 10, in hospital, Private A. M.'Donald (Archie) Shannon (K.L.R.). (Sadly missed and deeply regretted by his sorrowing Fiancee Lillian and all at 6a, Allerton-road.)"
