Natural causes is attributed those deaths due to causes that were not directly associated with the war. Included in this are wartime deaths resulting from, for example, theSpanish Influenza pandemic and its associated pneumonia problems and other attributions such as age and exhaustion. It also groups those who through Post Traumatic Stress committed suicide as a result of their experiences.

Detail :

109786 Company Sergeant Major Harry Smedley. Died 6.30pm 15th March, 1916 of Myocarditis at 33 CCS.

A medical report Army Form I. 1237 dated 24th March, 1916 shows the cause of his death at 33 Casualty Clearing Station, in the field: "I hereby certify that C.S.M. Smedley H. died on 15th, March, 1916, and that the cause of death was myocarditis. The diagnosis was verified by Post Mortem [???], and death was, in my opinion, due to natural causes, and was not accelerated by Active Service Conditions. A.U. Webster Lt. R.A.M.C. (T.C.)"
