HMS Recruit, built by W. Doxford & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland in 1916 and owned at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British R class destroyer of 1075 tons. On August 9th, 1917, HMS Recruit was sunk by the German submarine UB-16 (Wilhelm Rhein), 3 miles north of the Noord Hinder lightvessel. 54 persons were lost.
