The East African Campaign was a series of battles and guerrilla actions which started in German East Africa (now Tanzania) and ultimately impacted portions of Mozambique, Northern Rhodesia, British East Africa, Uganda, and the Belgian Congo. The German colonial forces, led by Lieutenant Colonel Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck, skillfully fought for the duration of World War I and surrendered only after that war had ended. Other campaigns were conducted in West and South West Africa.

Probate Record: STREET Samuel William Pring of 99 Egremont-road Exmouth Devonshire honorary and temporary second-lieutenant supply and transport department of H.M. Army died 9 November 1915 at Duala in the Cameroons Probate Exeter Effects £104 14s. 3d.
His medal record shows that he was awarded the 1915 Star, British War and Victory Medals and that he entered theatre "4c" [Cameroons] on the 4th August 1915 as part of the West African Expeditionary Force. But there are notes to state that the Medal is "forfeit" and that the "Unit and Rank deleted from Rolls "Min 15 NW/8/22489", relating to the 1915 Star only.
