Sydney James Thomas is recorded as Sergeant in 3 Company, Royal Engieneers upon his discharge from the Army on 4th September 1913. His regimental number is 26854. Prior to this, we understand that he was in Bombay in 1903 when he was initiated into Freemasonry, but his is recorded against the 1911 census with his wife and child, Thomas George in South Africa. Crucially, his discharge papers and the census link him back to Tenby, Glamorgan.

Detail :

Having been discharged from the Engineers in 1913, he more than likely rejoined for the war, but it is not yet know into what and the circumstance.
