Detail :
Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 12 August 1915 "The Devonshire Regiment. -11th Battalion: Temporary Captain John N. Trayler relinquishes his commission, on account of ill-health, dated 12th August."
His death is recorded in the Taunton Courier, and Western Advertiser 8th December 1915 "TRAYLER- Nov.27, at Hallam-road, Clevedon, John Nelson Trayler (late Captain 11th Batt. Devon Regt., elder son of Mr. J.N. Trayler, of Friarn-street, Bridgwater."
Wells Journal 10th December 1915 "BRIDGWATER - BEREAVED FAMILIES.-Much sympathy has been expressed with Councillor J. N. Trayler, of Friarn-street, in the loss he has sustained by the death of his eldest son-Captain Trayler, of the 11th Batt. Devon Regiment. the deceased officer had suffered from a long illness contracted whilst on military duties, and died at the residence of his father-in-law (Mr. John Sully) at Clevedon. At a committee meeting of the Town Council, the Mayor (Councillor F. G. Haggett) made sympathetic reference to the loss sustained by Councillor Trayler, also by Mr. R. J. Letherby-assistant to the Town Clerk- whose eldest son (Private C.J. Letherby, of the Canadian Contingent) has been killed in action and resolutions of sympathy were passed with the bereaved families."
