Son of Alice Harris (formerly Trotter) and the late William Richard Trotter, of 225, Canterbury St., Gillingham. Commemorated at Gillingham (Woodlands) Cemetery, E. 139., Gillingham, Kent. AWARDS: M C, D C M., Medaille Militaire (France). London Gazette 26th January 1917. His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Non commissioned Officers and Men, for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field. 2100 Serjeant E. B. Trotter, R.A.M.C. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great courage and determination when in charge of a number of stretcher-bearer squads. On several occasions he personally tended the wounded under very heavy fire. London Gazette 1st May 1917. War Office, 1st May, 1917. The following are among the Decorations and medals awarded by the Allied Powers at various dates to the British Forces for distinguished services rendered during the course of the campaign: ? His Majesty the King has given unrestricted permission in all cases to wear the Decorations and medals in question. Decorations conferred by THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC. Medaille Militaire. 2100 Serjeant Erle Brett Trotter, Royal Army Medical Corps. London Gazette 15th October 1918. War Office, 15th October, 1918. His Majesty The KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the following awards to the undermentioned Officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field. AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS. 2nd Lt. Erie Britt Trotter, D.C.M., Royal West Kent Regiment. Special Reserve. He was in charge of the parties on the flank of an important raid, and led his men with great energy arid determination, capturing an enemy post with a machine gun and accounting for the garrison, being badly wounded himself in the shoulder. In spite of exhaustion from loss of blood, he pushed on, inspiring his men by his example of gallantry and endurance, till he reached the enemy second line, where he was wounded a second time and became unconscious. London Gazette 28th June 1919. The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants. 3rd Royal West Kent Regiment - 30th Apr. 1919. E. B. Trotter, M.C., D.C.M.
