Early Life :
When he is initiated into Freemasonry it is clear that he is a Plumber from Workington. With this knowledge it helps to narrow down the number of "Robert Walker" listed. The plumber reference unlocks the 1911 census and ties it to Workington.John was born in 1888, the son of Dugald MacGregor and Elizabeth Connolly whilst they were living at 32 Washington Street, Workington. He had three sisters Sarah M. (b.1877), Rowena (b.1890) and Mary (b.1892). In 1911, the census shows that only Robert and Mary are still at the same address with their widowed father. He is listed as a Plumber, but also as a shopkeeper, with Robert dittoed as Plumber.
