Landed in France in January 1916. 10 August 1917 : amalgamated with 27th Bn to form 24/27th Battalion. 26 February 1918 : disbanded in France. |

9 April - 16 June 1917. The Arras Offensive consisted of a series of linked attacks starting with the Anglo Canadian assault on the dominant Vimy Ridge feature through the battles in the Scarpe River valley and up to the assaults on the Hindenburg line in the summer of 1917.
Newcastle Journal 26th March 1917 - "Northumberland Fusiliers - The undermentioned cadets to be temporary second-lieutenants (attached) (1st March 1917): ... W.H. Westhorp..."
Sheffield Daily Telegraph 28th June 1917 "PREVIOUSLY REPORTED MISSING, NOW REPORTED KILLED. ... WESTHORP, Sec.Lieut. W.H., Northumberland Fus."

There are a number of William Hast Westhorp entries in the contribution records which, given the different dates of birth would suggest that Freemasonry is in the family. He had resigned from Duguza Lodge "10.12.13". There is an entry and a suspicion that in 1906 at Liverpool Lodge that the 45 year old "William Haste Westhorp" might be the same man, but in all reality shouldn't be as this one was initiated, passed and raised (again?). The date of death is not, therefore, recorded on the contribution records, only the Medal record and other service records with the same name shows the date as 28.4.17. Requires further investigation into movements and residence to ensure two different men are not being sourced
