Unit / Ship / Est.: Royal Field Artillery |
Action : France & Flanders |
France & Flanders covers all the dates and corresponding locations which are outside the official battle nomenclature dates on the Western Front. Therefore the actions in which these men died could be considered 'normal' trench duty - the daily attrition losses which were an everyday fact of duty on the Western Front.
Detail :
Anderson served as a trooper in the South African Constabulary during the South African War and was awarded the South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
He returned from Argentina in April 1916 and enlisted as Gunner 153534 in the Royal Field Artillery, in 1916. He was commissioned in the Royal Horse & Royal Field Artillery on 27th April, 1917. The War Diary of 282 Brigade RFA has not been accessed so no details of his service are known. He died of wounds at No 47 Casualty Clearing Station at Dozinghem and is buried at the military cemetery there.
His portrait image is to be found on the website of The Friends of the Glasgow Necropolis.
