Action : The Battles of the Lys 

9 April - 29 April 1918. As the first phase of the great German campaign of 1918 lost momentum and failed in its objective to split the British and French armies, subsidiary attacks were shift the balance of the attack and to seek opportunities to exploit other sectors. On the Lys the Germans initially enjoyed spectacular success against a Portuguese Division but the gap was soon plugged and the advance halted.

Entry exists in the Scottish and the England/Wales National Probate Index: BRODBELT, Arthur Dell, of Mill Bank, Moor Park, Great Crosby, near Liverpool, Lieut., R.G.A., died 18 April 1918, in France, testate. Certificate endorsed by Commissary Clerk of Edinburgh, 30 September, on Probate of the Will, granted at London, 20 July 1918, to Lucy Brodbelt, widow, the mother, the sole Executrix. Value of Estate, £2747. 10s. 9d.
