Born 1889 at Kurow Waitaki Canterbury New Zealand. Sheep farmer. Married Rachel Isabella Bennett 15th June, 1921. They had two children: Shirley Rachel (b.1928) and Gordon Kitching (b.1932).Service Life:

Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. His is commemorated for his service on the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph.

It seems a coincidence that two brethren named Mackay should join Lodge of Otago in consecutive months from the New Zealand Constitution in June/July 1914. That they should not be related would make it unbelievable. William joined first followed by Finlay Kenneth Mackay, who has no war service. William, however, appears to be engaged in war acitivity from 1915 and continues his membership following Armistice.
