This entry came to this project by means of the New Zealand Masonic List where James is noted to be "James Archibald Smeaton" [Regimental Number: 22178] of Pacific Lodge of Hokitika No. 1229. The only entry for James does not include his second name "Archibald." James joined 'Pacific' on 14th January, 1914. He is noted to be an engineer resident at Hokitika. His war service is also noted 1917-18 and appear to stop in 1920 without comment.
He joined Pacific from Greymouth Lodge No. 1223 him having been initiated in 1910. He is listed as a 26 year old Engine Driver of Nelson Creek. The "A" of his name is listed here as Andrew. He resigned from this lodge 25th February, 1913.
