Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. His medals include The Queen’s South Africa Medal (1899-1902) for the Boer War; The 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and The Victory Medal (1914-1918) for service in World War I; and the New Zealand War Medal and New Zealand Service Medal (1939-1945) for service in World War II. He was also in receipt of The Gallipoli Commemorative Medal.
His service is commemorated on the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph.
