Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. Kimpton joined Corinthian Lodge No. 1655 at Thames, New Zealand in 1901 when he was listed as a 22 year old Lecturer resident of Waitie. The contribution register only shows one year of dues in the 1887-1901 ledger, so he must have resigned the same year. He rejoined the same lodge on 10th September, 1912 recorded as a 34 year old Metallurgist. Resigned the lodge 31st December, 1921.
