Early Life :
'Eddie' Blomfield was born in Hasting, England in 1886 the son of J.H. Blomfield, Trinity House, 44 Robertson Street, Hastings, England.Education & Career :
A seaman before the war he enlisted in the British Section NZEF: he enlisted in England and invalided to New Zealand in 1917 to convalesce, returned to duty February 1918, embarking from New Zealand in 1918 for the war theatre.
Eddie Blomfield wrote a book about his experiences in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and New Zealand in WW1.

He was given the MC. The citation gazetted in the 3rd supplement of the London Gazette dated 11 October 1918 reads:"His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the Military Cross to 4/150A Second Lieutenant Edwin Hoffman Blomfield, New Zealand Cyclists Corps, New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, for conspicuous gallantry in the field. When his company commander was wounded during an attack, this officer took charge and led his company to the final objective, showing great skill and ability as well as fine courage and devotion to duty under heavy enemy fire. After consolidation he was particularly active in patrolling the area."
