Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. 30081 Alexander Richard Tozer, Cinematography Section, No. 1 New Zealand (Division) Employ. Company, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
He was enlisted 23rd May, 1916 as a Temporary Sergeant but rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Cinema Section, part of the New Zealand Divisional Headquarters. Despite this "softer" role he was admitted to 26 General Hospital, Etaples on the 3rd October, 1918 after sustaining a Gun Shot Wound to the head. He evidently survived and was eventually discharged from service 21st February, 1919 after 2 years 273 days.
Probate: TOZER Alexander Richard of 34 Northumberland Avenue Margate died 28 August 1961 Probate London 10 November to Edith Florence Reed married woman. Effects £11421 7s.
He is commemorated for his service on the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph.

Listed as a "Cine Manager" resident at Plaistow, East London and aged 36 at the time of his initiation into the Duchy of Cornwall Lodge No. 3038. His war service is recorded 1917-19, after which he continues paying dues.
