Early Life :
The Who's Who in New Zealand dated 1938 gives a summary of George Harold Robertson:"ROBERTSON, Dr. George Harold, M.D; M.Sc. (N.Z.); M.R.C.P.(London). Medical Practitioner; 279 Victoria Ave., Wanganui, N.Z. Deputy Chairman, Dominion Executive of Toc H. Born: Sydney, N.S.W., Australia, 20th Aug., 1890. Son of Richard Edward (deceased) of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and of Robertina Renney Robertson Educated: Boy's High School, Christchurch; Wellington College. Victoria University College; Otago University. Came to Wellington, June, 1900. Author of various contributions to scientific and medical journals. Served with N.Z. Medical Corps as Captain during the Great War, 1916-1918. Service with Volunteer and Territorial Forces in N.Z. from 1907-1914. Mem., Board of Governors, Wanganui Girls' College, 1933 to date. Married Ella Frances, daughter of Donald Yule of Hastings; 28th March, 1920. Issue: Three daughters. Recreations: Bowls. Creed: Presbyterian. Home address: 10 Kent Rd., St. John's Hill, Wanganui, New Zealand."

Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. Stories of those who did survive are included as part of this site, especially those with high gallantry awards, those included against an external rolls of honour and those who had a distinguished career in wartime and military leaderhip.

3/2061 Surgeon Major George Harold Robertson, New Zealand Medical Corps, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Prior to the Great War he served in the Territorial Forces of New Zealand with No.2 Field Ambulance, appointed as a Surgeon in March 1910.
It is minuted in a document by the Brigadier General and Director General Medical Services, to be promoted to Major on 4th May, 1920.
He died aged 86 and was buried at Purewa Cemetery on the 7th February, 1977. He is commemorated by his service on the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph.
