Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. 37077 Sapper John William Graham, Postal Service, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Enlisted for service 5th October, 1916 arriving at Plymouth 28 December 1916. He was employed at the New Zealand Army Postal Service Headquarters, London.
Discharged from the Army 6th December, 1919 after 3 years and 63 days service. In his last months of service he had been promoted to Temporary Sergeant, but he was discharged as a Corporal. He received the British War Medal.
His is commemorated for his service on the Auckland Musuem Online Cenotaph.
