Husband of Alice Maud Bullen, of 121, Blenheim Rd., Deal, Kent. Born at Deal.Facebook : Deal Maritime and Local History Museum : "Like his father before him First Engineer Victor Albert Bullen had been one time licensee of the Dolphin Inn, Gladstone Road, Walmer, but had chosen a career in the Merchant Navy. On 6th May, 1918, he was making his first voyage as Chief Engineer on SS Sandhurst (London) when it was torpedoed by U-72 near Corswell Point, a few hours from port and he was killed. Albert was 38 years old when he died and left a wife, Alice Maud, at their home 121 Blenheim Road, Deal. He had attended Deal Parochial School and had played regularly for the Cinque Ports Football Club First XI"

Wrecksite EU SS Sandhurst, built by Blyth Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Blyth in 1897 and owned at the time of her loss by Britain SS. Co. Ltd. (Watts, Watts & Co. Ltd.), London, was a British steamer of 3.034 tons. On May 6th, 1918, Sandhurst, on a voyage from Bilbao to Ardrossan with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine UB-72 (Friedrich Träger), 6 miles NWxW1/4W of Corsewall Point. 20 persons were lost."
