1/11th (County of London) Battalion (Finsbury Rifles) August 1914 : at 17 Penton Street in Pentonville. Record same as 1/10th Bn. Moved on mobilisation to Bullswater, going on in September to Crowborough. April 1915 : moved to Norwich and transferred to the East Midland Brigade in East Anglian Division. 7 May 1915 : formation renamed 162nd Brigade in 54th (East Anglian) Division. Moved to St Albans. Late July 1915 : sailed from Plymouth for Gallipoli, going via Mudros. Landed at Suvla Bay 11 August 1915. December 1915 : evacuated from Gallipoli and moved to Egypt. |

Palestine is a generic term to cover actions in the region now consisting of Sinai, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Aden and involved operations against the Turks. Once the security of the Suez Canal was assured in 1915 the focus shifted to the area now within the post 1967 borders of Israel. In 1917 there were three battles at Gaza, which enabled the capture of Jerusalem in December. In 1918 the campaign continued north into the Jordan Valley then towards Damascus. The Armistice with Turkey was signed on the 31st October 1918.

Lieutenant Peter Johansen Anderson, 11th Battalion London Regiment. Formerly, 194 Sergeant of the King's Liverpool Regiment.
He embarked to and landed in France on 21st February, 1915. He was commissioned in the London Regiment 7th March, 1915.
Probate: ANDERSEN Peter Johansen of 17 Old Park Road, Palmers Green, Middlesex. Lieutenant H.M. Army died 19th April 1917 in Syria on active service. Probate granted at London on 29th Oct to Charles Ernest Martin Andersen - Warehouse Manager. Effects: £904 12s 6d
For his service in the Great War he was awarded the 1915 Star as a Sergeant of the Liverpool Regiment, and also the British War Medal and Victory Medal as an Officer of the 11th Battalion, London Regiment. These were applied for and received by his brother Charles, who was resident at 17 Old Park Road, Palmers Green, London.
