Early Life :
Born Newport.Marine Engineer, appears on the Crew Lists for RMS "Majestic" of the White Star Line on the regular route from Liverpool to New York, sailing 2nd-27th April, 30th April-24 May and 25th May-21st June 1906 when resident at 24 Albert Road, Waterloo and as a 45 year old Master Mariner. He receives about £8 8s 2d in wages for his work as 2nd Assistant Engineer. His journey in June also sees him discharged from RMS Majestic, the next crew manifest showing his name crossed out and "transferred."

Notice of his death, which refers to his Lodge is recorded in the Liverpool Echo 28th October, 1918: "MAYO - October 23, at 24 Hougoumount-avenue, Waterloo, aged 57 years, John MAYO (Anfield 2215) beloved husband of Margaret Mayo, Interment to-morrow (Tuesday) at St. Luke's, Crosby, at 2.30 pm. (Friends kindly accept this - the only - intimation)"
