Accidentally drowned in an incident on the 7th May, 1918. Another Freemason from the same Lodge was also killed in this incident. See W.G. Gale.
Probate shows "CLARKE Valentine Herbert of 134 Parrock-street Gravesend Kent died 7 May 1918 at sea off Malta Administration London 26 October to Mary Ann Clarke widow. Effects £288 9s. 1d."
