Natural causes is attributed those deaths due to causes that were not directly associated with the war. Included in this are wartime deaths resulting from, for example, theSpanish Influenza pandemic and its associated pneumonia problems and other attributions such as age and exhaustion. It also groups those who through Post Traumatic Stress committed suicide as a result of their experiences.

"Notification has been received that Engineer Lieut. A.B. Perry, R.N.R., of H.M.S. "Vienna" died on October 6th after a short illness. The body was brought to Dovercourt and interred in Old Dovercourt Churchyard on October 10th. Mr. Perry was the eldest son of the late Mr. Benjamin Perry, who was the Company's printer for many years. He entered the service as a lad at Stratford Works on June 16th, 1888, and was transferred to Parkeston as a fitter in April 1893. In April 1899, he was appointed an engineer on the Continental steamers, and was promoted to chief engineer in September, 1908. When the "Vienna" was taken over by the Admiralty, Mr. Perry, who was her chief engineer was appointed engineer-lieutenant. He was a very popular officer, and leave a widow and three children to mourn his loss. A telegram of condolence was received from their Majesties the Kind and Queen." - Great Eastern Railway magazine
