Born circa 1881 at Saltash, Bradford, Yorkshire, England to Ebenezer and Martha Ann Illingworth (nee Lambert). Baptised 6th April 1881 and appears on the 1881 census as a 2 month old resident at 18 Bromley Street, Shipley.He married Charlotte Mary Metcalfe at Kendal in 1903 and had three children: Myrtle b.1904, Beryl b.1908 and Leslie b.1911.
