Early Life :
Born in Deal, Kent in 1914, son of Sir Frank Edwin Newson-Smith, 1st Baronet and Lilian Dorothy Tozer.Educated at Dover College at its Junior School 1923 – 1928 in in School House 1928 – 1933. Became Head Boy. Represented the College at Rugby, Cricket, Running and Hockey teams.
Progressed to study at Wadham College, Oxford University and became a stockbroker.
Married Gertrude Irene Walker, 1939 and had one issue: Carole Irene born 26th August, 1943.

Peter was one of 177 Old Dovorians who lost their life in the Second World War, and one of two from the Old Dovorian Lodge No. 5647. He was a Founder member who took immediate office as first Steward of the Lodge.
