Early Life :
Born at Highfield, Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1884. At the war census in 1939 he is resident with wife Alice and one other at 17Thrya Grove, Nottingham.He was an cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire teams (Main FC: 1920-1929);Nottinghamshire Second XI (Minor Counties Championship: 1924-1930);

Although many perished in times of national conflict and in the service of their country, many more survived including those interned as Prisoners of War. T./Lt. (A. /Capt.) Lionel Kirk, R.G.A.
"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. One of the guns of his battery was located under a building. A direct hit set fire to this building and to some ammunition. The shelling continued, but he called for volunteers and proceeded to put out the fire, although burning timber was falling on the cartridges. By his prompt action he saved the gun from damage and prevented a large proportion of the ammunition from being destroyed."
In addition to the Military Cross he is listed on the Officers roll for those awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
A record of his death is published in the Nottingham Journal dated 29th February 1953, noting that he had died after a short illness.
