Mike: Chic was a 3,037grt British Cargo Steamer built in 1914 by Russell & Co Port Glasgow, Yard No 660 as the CAMPERDOWN SS for Glen & Co., Glasgow. In 1915 she was purchased by the British Maritime Trust, London and then by Preston SN Co. (Becker & Co.), London in 1915 when she was renamed CHIC. On the 13th April 1916 when 45 miles SW from Fastnet, Ireland she was captured by German submarine U-22 and sunk by torpedo when on route from Haliofax for Manchester with a cargo of wood pulp. 9 lives lost including Master |
