Mike: The WILLINGTONIA (Official No.140705) was a steel-hulled 3,228-ton British steam cargo ship that measured: 109m by length and a 15.4m beam. Tyne Iron S.B. Co., Ltd., Newcastle built and completed her in January 1918 and she was launched on 15 November 1917 for Ericsson Shipping Co., Ltd., Newcastle. Her single steel propeller was powered by a 3-cylinder triple expansion steam engine She was torpedoed and sunk by UC 27, on 25 August 1918, 13 miles SW by W of Marittimo (37.49N-11.10E), while on a voyage from Barry to Corfu, with coal; four crew were lost |
